Hello everybody..!
In our first meeting, I will explain you a little material about present simple and continuous. Okay let
you see...!
Present Simple and
Continuous
Present Simple Tense
The simple present tense is used to
describe habits, unchanging situations, general truths, and fixed arrangement.
It is simple to form, Just use the base
form of the verb: (I take, you take, we take, they take) The 3rd person
singular takes an -s at the end. (he takes, she takes). Be careful! The simple
present is not used to express actions happening now. In the third person
singular the verb always ends in -s: he wants, she needs, he gives, she thinks.
Negative and question forms use DOES (= the third person of the auxiliary 'DO')
+ the infinitive of the verb. Verbs ending in -y : the third person changes the
-y to –ies (fly --> flies, cry --> cries). Exception: if there is a vowel
before the –y (play --> plays, pray --> prays). Add -es to verbs ending in:-ss,
-x, -sh, -ch (he passes, she catches, he fixes, it pushes)
Present simple > (+) subject +
verb 1(s/es) + object
(-) subject +
to be + verb 1 + not + object
(?) to be +
subject + verb 1 + ?
Examples : (+) she drinks coffee
every night.
(-) she does not
drink coffee every night.
(?) does she
drink coffee every night?
Past simple >
(+) subject + verb 2 + object
subject + to
be (was/were) + adj/adv
(-) subject + did not + verb 1 + object
subject + to be (was/were) + adj/adv
(?) to be + subject + object/adj/adv +?
Examples :
(+) they went to the beach last week.
(-) they did not went to the beach last week.
(?) did they go to the beach last week?
Present Continuous Tense
The present continuous tense is used
for actions happening now that is unfinished. This tense is also used when the
action is temporary. The present continuous tense is formed with the subject
plus the present particle form (-ing) of the main verb and the present
continuous tense of the verb to be: am, is, are.
Present continuous > (+) subject +
to be + verb ing + object
(-) subject + to be + not + verb ing + object
(?) to be + subject + verb ing + object +?
Examples : (+) Han is going to New
york.
(-) Han is not
going to New York.
(?) Is Han
going to New York?
Past continuous > (+) subject + to
be (was/were) + verb ing
(-) subject +
to be (was/were) + not + verb ing
(?) to be +
subject + v ing +?
Examples : (+) You were visiting my
house last night.
(-) You were
not visiting my house last night.
